Extra damage

Like grenades (I'm a CyberTech). Have any ideas?

I havent researched it but if the grenades take up a global cooldown then it would only be worth it if they do more damage or have more benefit than another attack of the user.

Questions - does it use up a global cooldown? how much damage will one do against a boss?

What Cel was asking about was the global cooldown, though. That's the brief cooldown that applies to almost all of your abilities whenever you use an ability. Most MMOs include something like that to help prevent lag affecting your actions and to normalize data (since faster people can't just spam no cost attacks faster while waiting to build their resource for bigger attacks back up). She was asking if using one of those grenades triggers that global cooldown, which would prevent you from immediately using one of your class attacks, which might do more damage than a grenade and would then be wasted because you used a grenade instead.

Grenades really aren't worth it. That's why they're so cheap and no one uses them. The rotations you find online (noxxic.com) take into account your dwindling resources and advice you which ability to use when those resources are exhausted, abilities that affect the global cooldown but also are no cost so that you're not simply sitting there waiting for your resources to build back up.
